Anaesthesiology

Department of Anesthesiology

Anaesthesiology is a branch of medicine focused on the management of anesthesia during surgery and other medical procedures. The role of an anaesthesiologist is crucial in ensuring patient safety and comfort before, during, and after procedures. They are responsible for:

  1. Preoperative Assessment: Evaluating the patient’s medical history, physical condition, and any potential risks related to anesthesia.
  2. Anesthesia Planning: Choosing the appropriate type of anesthesia (general, regional, or local) based on the patient’s needs and the nature of the procedure.
  3. Administration: Administering anesthetic agents and monitoring the patient’s vital signs throughout the procedure.
  4. Postoperative Care: Managing recovery from anesthesia and addressing any complications that may arise.
  5. Pain Management: Providing strategies and treatments to manage pain both during and after surgery.

Anaesthesiology is a complex field requiring knowledge of pharmacology, physiology, and critical care, as well as the ability to make quick decisions in high-pressure situations
